Fonds F1035 - Sheilagh S. Jameson fonds

Sheilagh Somerville Jameson, 1914-1997, was born in southern Alberta, the daughter of Thomas Jameson and Frances Grace Somerville, owners of the Ballyhamage Ranch near Millarville. She attended school in Millarville and Okotoks, and Normal School in Calgary. She taught school at various places in southern Alberta until 1957. Subsequently she began a career as historical researcher with the Glenbow Foundation. She continued to upgrade her education and was eventually promoted to Chief Archivist, retiring in 1979.

She was active as both a speaker and a writer, producing numerous books, stories, articles, plays, poems and radio scripts. Many of these were published including: W.J. Oliver, Life Through a Master's Lens. - Calgary : Glenbow Museum, 1984; Chautauqua in Canada / Sheilagh S. Jameson in collaboration with Nola B. In 1979 she was awarded an Alberta Achievement Award, and in 1989 received the Annual Heritage Award from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation. She was also active in many community organizations including the Historical Society of Alberta, Southern Alberta Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association and the Women's Canadian Club.
