Biographical history

George Scott, 1871-1965, was born at Sour Bank, Rafford, Morayshire, Scotland and came to Canada in 1889 with the first Angus cattle delivery. He worked as a ranch hand at Quorn Ranch near Okotoks, Alberta in 1892 and later worked at other ranches including the Bar U. In 1906 he married a teacher, Sarah Ellen "Nellie" MacFarlane, and the had three children, Margaret McGillivary (Wilson), George Alexander, and Joyce Elizabeth (White). They settled in Okotoks.

Between 1904 and his retirement in 1937 George worked with the Dominion and provincial government as mange inspector, brand inspector, and investigator of stock grazing and raising areas. In 1927 the family moved to Calgary. George (Jr.) was born and educated in Okotoks, attended high school and Normal School in Calgary and began teaching in Millarville. He later began working for Royalite Oil Company as a labourer and then with Valley Pipe Line Company as a tank gauger. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, and afterwards worked for Imperial Oil in Calgary, first as an accountant at Norman Wells and then as an accountant in Calgary from 1949 until his retirement.
