Biographical history
Robert P. Rintoul, 1910-1990, was born in Scotland, came to Canada in 1920 and settled in Calgary, Alberta in 1926. He lived in Ottawa from 1955 to 1970. He joined the Amalgamated Transit Union in 1928 and served as president from 1947 to 1948. He was president of the Calgary Federation of Civic Employees, Calgary Labour Council, Alberta Federation of Labour, and Ottawa and District Labour Council. He was very active with the Canadian Union of Public Employees and other labour and civic organizations. Robert married Evelyn Burke in 1929 and they had one son, G. Robert, 1930-2017.
Evelyn was the daughter of Edward Burke who homesteaded in Alberta in the 1880s at Davisburg and then lived in the Porcupine Hills, Claresholm and finally at various locations around Calgary.
