Biographical history

John Robert "Jack" Stewart, 1919-1997, was born in Calgary, Alberta and in 1937 joined CFAC radio station in the city. For over 50 years he was an on-air personality, programmer and executive at radio stations in Calgary (including CKXL, CJCJ and CHFM), Toronto, Winnipeg (CKY), Niagara Falls, Vancouver and Victoria. Over the course of his career he received many accolades from community groups and charitable organizations for his on-air support of their work. He and his first wife Natalie had three children and with his second wife Vicki had two more.

The fonds consists of sound recordings of radio programs aired on CFAC, CKXL and CKY radio stations, including program regarding a Sarcee (Tsuut'ina) sun dance (1953); reminiscences of Jack Stewart growing up in Calgary in the 1930s (1961); religious and musical programs; and the theme song "Let's Keep Smiling" for the Jack Stewart Show.
