Biographical history

Ian Ferguson Smith, 1910 or 1911-1993, was born in Greenoch, Scotland, and settled in Calgary with his parents in 1912. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, and worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Passenger and Reservation Department from 1927 to 1974. He was active in musical circles in Calgary as a baritone singer. His solos were first heard on William Aberhart's Calgary Prophetic Bible Institute radio broadcasts in 1931, which continued as Canada's National Back to the Bible Hour under Ernest C. Manning. Mr. Smith was an active member of the Alberta Social Credit League, serving on its provincial executive and as president of its Calgary North constituency association. He was married to Marion Smith.
