The Reads moved to Calgary in 1911 where Archie worked for the Shelley Quarry Company. He served in the 8th Field Ambulance during the First World War, and on his return worked at the Colonel Belcher Hospital. From 1920 to 1935 he farmed at Consort, and then in 1935 returned to Cochrane to work at Bill Oliver’s quarry.
