Archie Wilmer Sheffield was born in Cardston, Alberta on January 9, 1893. Prior to his enlistment in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in February , 1915, Sheffield worked as a carpenter and was an active member of the Cardston Militia. Sheffield served in the 13th Canadian Mounted Rifles, and later in the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles. Following the war, Sheffield returned to Alberta.
