Biographical history
Esmeil Muhammed "Sam" Jamha, 1890-1974, was born in Lala, Lebanon. In 1905 he emigrated to Canada and by 1906 was in Edmonton. He worked as a travelling salesman in northern Alberta. He built a store at Wabasca Lake, Alberta in 1913 which he ran until 1917, when he returned to Edmonton. In 1921 he received his certificate of naturalization. In 1922 he married Vera Jowett, and they had three children, Roy, 1923- , Bob, 1925- , and Mariam (Cane), 1934- . He worked as a fur buyer in northern Alberta, although he remained based in Edmonton. He was one of group of local Muslims who built the Al-Rashid Mosque in 1938.
