Biographical history
Robert H. Giveen, 1852-[after 1910], was born in India, served briefly in the British Army, then joined the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) in 1874. He served until 1880 and remained in Canada until 1891. He was briefly involved with the NWMP again during the 1885 Riel Rebellion (North West Rebellion). He moved to Ireland in 1891 to settle his father's estate and continued to manage a number of family estates in Ireland until his death.

The fonds consists of correspondence, notebook, discharge papers and invoices; photographs of NWMP and native people; and recorded interview with R.B. Giveen regarding his father. The notebook includes the words of songs about the March West by George Crofton.
