Biographical history
Reginald G. Smith, ca. 1890-1967, was born in Bristol, England. He came to Canada ca. 1906 and worked as a reporter for the Winnipeg Telegram. In 1908 he moved to Edmonton where he worked for the Edmonton Journal. He came to Calgary, Alberta in 1917, and was involved in the advertising business as well as being a director of numerous companies. He was an alderman from 1939 to 1946.
He married May Armitage, ?-1965, in 1913 and they had one son, Reginald A. Smith. May was an active newspaper woman in Edmonton, and involved in the Canadian Women's Press Club (president of the Calgary branch 1925-1926) and the Local Council of Women. The Smiths lived in Calgary from 1918 until 1951 when they retired to Victoria. Following May's death Reginald married Luella Brocklebank Maynard, ?-1979.
