Biographical history
Randolph Francis Avery, 1916-1990, was born in New York City, USA into a show business family, and began performing there. He later became a theatrical producer in Chicago. He was hired by the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede as a consultant / writer / director for the first grandstand show in the 1960s. In 1968 he established the first group of Young Canadians who performed at the annual Stampede and in other theatrical presentations including dinner theatres which were established in 1973. He and his wife, Betty, had five children, William, Nancy, Patty (Shokes), Kathy and Mimi. He received the Croix de Guerre in the Second World War, an Alberta Achievement Award, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Calgary.
