Biographical history

Michael A. Stahl, 1894-[after 1979], a Hutterite farmer from South Dakota, USA, was called up for service in the American army during the First World War. He "enlisted" at Barkston, South Dakota on September 22, 1917. A conscientious objector, he refused to wear the uniform or perform any military duties. After two years at Camp Funston, Kansas and Camp Dodge, Iowa, he was discharged on December 18, 1918. He subsequently moved to the New Rosebud Hutterite Colony near Beiseker, Alberta.
