Biographical history
Malcolm Daniel Geddes, 1866-1927, was born in Wick, Scotland. He came to Canada with his family in 1877 and settled near Burk Falls, Ontario. He studied at the Ontario Agricultural College from 1895 to 1898. In 1902 he moved to Winnipeg to work as a journalist for the Farmers' Advocate. In 1903 he married Mary Jane "Jennie" Waters, and they settled in Calgary, Alberta shortly after. They had two children, Alvin Brooks, 1904- , and Enid Jeane (Darroch), 1906- . In 1905 Malcolm began publishing the Farm and Ranch Review. He continued with the paper as vice-president and editor until his death, except for the period from 1909 to 1914 when he went into real estate, in partnership with Herbert T. Sheffield, due to his health.
