        History

        Solon Earl Low, 1900-1962, was born in Cardston, Alberta. He first married in 1920 and had three children. After divorcing his wife he married Alice Fern Litchfield of Raymond in 1922, and they had five children. He was educated at the Calgary Normal School and the University of Southern California, USA and taught at schools in Raymond and Stirling.

        He sat as a Social Credit Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Alberta Legislature from 1935 to 1944, and served as provincial treasurer, 1937-1944. He was elected leader of the Social Credit Association of Canada in 1944 and remained leader until he resigned in 1958. He was first elected to the Canadian Parliament in 1945, and sat until defeated in 1958. He resumed teaching until he was appointed judge of the juvenile and family court in Lethbridge in 1961.
