Biographical history
John Glambeck (originally Hans Christian Hansen), 1863-1935, was born in Glambeck, Denmark. In 1882 he moved to Canton, Ohio, USA and worked throughout the American mid and north west before settling in Chicago, Illinois. He was active in the Socialist Labor Party and the Danish Brotherhood. In 1907 he moved to Alberta and homesteaded near Milo. He was known for his success growing fruits, shrubs and trees on his dry land farm. He continued his interest in socialism and politics and was active in the United Farmers of Alberta (UFA). He was a correspondent for the Farm and Ranch Review, the Alberta Farmer, the Grain Growers' Guide, the Calgary Herald, the Danish Herald of Canada and the Gleichen Call, frequently writing about dry land farming. In 1895 he married Katherine Munkholm, 1872-1936, (originally Anne Katrine Nielsen) of Munkholm, Denmark. They had eight children, Agnes (Harrison), George, Dagmar, Carl, 1904-2003, Ellen (Craine), Julia (Westcott), Edith (Kennings) and Elizabeth (Langhren). Carl and Evelyn had four children: John, Carol (Herron), Gail (Sherley) and Ken, ?-1983.
