Harold Walter "Hal" Godwin, 1928-1998, was born in Calgary, Alberta, the son of Alfred Theodore, 1896-1985, and Violet May Godwin. He began a career in the petroleum industry in 1949 with Western Geophysical. He later worked for Montex Exploration in Dallas and Seismotech in Calgary. He joined Seismic Service Supply (later Seismic Drills International) as president in 1972 and remained until 1986. He established Consortex Development Ltd. as a consulting business in 1975 and worked for the Alberta and Canadian governments. He was active as a volunteer with the University of Calgary, Calgary Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the Calgary Economic Development Authority, the Canadian Exporters Association, the Export Development Corporation, the Petroleum Services Association of Canada, the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the Canadian Oilfield Manufacturers Association. Each year the University of Calgary gives an award for excellence in international business in Godwin's name. He and his first wife, Marie, had three daughters Susan (Robertson), Anita (Anderson), and Patricia (Ledingham). He married Wanda in 1980.
