Biographical history
Harry Benjamin Richardson, 1868-1958, was born in England. He came to Canada in 1888 and took up residence in the Golden, British Columbia area after gold mining for the summer. He married Violet North, ?-1961, in 1902, and they had five children. The family moved to Windermere in 1910. H.B. became a well-known Windermere personality and resided there until the mid-1950s when he moved to Victoria.
His son, Harry Edmind Richardson, 1902- , worked as a labourer on the Banff-Windermere Highway, 1920-1922. He helped build electric power lines in southern Alberta, 1927-1928. He married Dorothy Haynes, ?-1984, in 1928 and they had two daughters. He worked for the City of Calgary Electric Light Department, 1929-1932. The family returned to Windermere during the Depression and H.E. again worked on the Banff-Windermere Highway. From 1935 to 1942 he was employed by the West Kootenay Light and Power Company. The family moved back to Alberta in 1942 and H.E. subsequently worked on electrification and telephone lines projects in many parts of Alberta. He retired to Victoria in 1968, and married Elizabeth Ward in 1985.

The fonds consists of H.B. Richardson's diaries (1914-1925), reminiscences, and miscellaneous Windermere records; and H.E. Richardson's diaries (1923-1941), reminiscences and historical writings, and miscellaneous correspondence, memberships and newsclippings; and photographs of the Richardson family, the Windermere area, electric power line construction, and setting up of telephone lines.
