Biographical history

George Zouch Pinder, 1881-1967, was born in England. He came to Canada in 1907 and settled in Edmonton. He was commissioned as an Alberta Land Surveyor in 1913, then served in the 49th Battalion during the First World War. He married Kate Bourchier in 1917, and they had a son, Thomas. When Kate died, however, he returned to England, 1919-1921. From 1921 to 1926 he was engaged in the partnership of Bissett, Pinder and Company in Edmonton. In 1926 he was hired by the provincial government to survey in southern Alberta, primarily around Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, Cardston and Waterton. He married Anne Valetta Kemmis in 1930 and they lived first in Calgary and later at Springbank. During the 1940s he surveyed for various oil companies and municipalities, but he retired due to poor health in the early 1950s.
