Biographical history

Frederick William Chalk, 1889-1949, was born in Reading, Berkshire, England. He emigrated to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1913 and joined the Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP). In 1916 he was discharged and enlisted with the 77th Depot Battery, Canadian Field Artillery. His First World War overseas service was with the 20th Field Battery. After his demobilization in 1919 he re-engaged in the Mounted Police at Regina. He was invalided to pension in 1943 as a staff-sergeant. During his service he was stationed at a number of posts in Saskatchewan, including Hanley, and at Vancouver, British Columbia. He and his wife, Bertha Margaret Pentland, had four children William, Keith, Richard and Phyllis. He died in Saskatoon.

The fonds consists of RNWMP diary while stationed at Hanley (1913-1914), war diaries (1917-1919), and army paybook (ca. 1919). Includes photographs of Frederick and RNWMP views (1891, nd), and biographical information.
