Biographical history

Fred Sterling, 1906-[after 1982], was born in Ontario. He came to the Youngstown area of Alberta in 1911 with his parents and his uncle, Gordon Helem. His father, Charlie Sterling, ran a general store and undertaking business, and his uncle ran the Rex Theatre. After his uncle's death in 1918 the Sterlings took over the theatre, and in the early 1920s Fred became the movie projectionist. He continued in this job until 1927 when the theatre closed. In 1982 he was living in Edmonton.
