Biographical history

William Bruce Nodwell, 1914-2006, was born in Asquith, Saskatchewan. In 1935 he married Phyllis Wride, 1915-2004, and they had three children, Jack, Pat (Clay) and Ted. Bruce became involved with tracked vehicles while building camps in the north for the oil industry. In 1953 he started his own company, Bruce Nodwell Ltd. In 1958 this company amalgamated with Robinson Machine Co. Ltd. to become Robin-Nodwell Manufacturing Co. Ltd. By 1964 Nodwell tracked carriers were being used around the world because of their high mobility. Bruce left Robin-Nodwell in 1965 and started Canadian Foremost Ltd. with Jack. In 1970 the company made a major sale of Foremost tracked vehicles to the Soviet Union, to assist in the building of a trans-Siberian pipeline. In 1970 Bruce received the Medal of Service of the Order of Canada for his accomplishments.
