History
The Bituminous Sand Extraction Company Ltd. was incorporated on July 9, 1926, with the object of extracting oil from the bituminous (tar) sands found in Alberta. Its president was Curt Smith of Wetaskiwin, its vice-president was George E. Watchorn of Calgary, and the head office was in Calgary. The company leased land in the Fort McMurray area, and undertook experimental work for several seasons. It was inexistence until at least December of 1932.
