      History

      Frances Ethel Baker, 1878-1977, was born in England and emigrated to Saskatchewan in 1903 to join her homesteading sisters. In 1910 she moved to Calgary, Alberta where she worked as a dressmaker, and also in the hotel industry. For many years she was secretary of the Alberta Old Age Pensioners Society. For a period of time in the 1930s and 1940s her partner was Daniel "Dick" Needham, 1867-1959, a Calgary hotel manager, originally from Iowa, who moved to the city in 1918.
