Biographical history

Alexander Pirie (1868-1935) was born in Turriff, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on 2 January 1868. He came to Canada as a child in 1872 and was raised in Pembroke and Woodstock, Ontario. He went into business as a partner in the firm of Pirie Brothers, Chapleau, Ontario in 1891-93 and then arrived in Alberta in 1899 where he worked as a builder and contractor in Lethbridge before moving to Calgary in 1904. Pirie is best known work in Calgary as the designer of the Devinish Apartments (1911). He designed several projects in Calgary between 1905 and 1930. Alexander Pirie died in Calgary on 24 September 1935.

Consists of six architectural drawings created by Alexander Pirie for the proposed Prophetic Bible Institute building on 8th Avenue, Calgary, Alberta. The drawings include floor plans, elevations, sections, and details. The specifications for the building project are also included in the file. Sheet No. 1 has a note that white pencil measurements taken March 6, 1952, Rule Wynn & Rule, perhaps indicating that the drawings were maintained by Rule Wynn & Rule for a restoration project in the early 1950s.
