History
Frederick Charles Vaughan-Birch, the son of a British military officer, was born in Ireland and spent his childhood in Jamaica. He studied engineering in England, and after emigrating to Canada studied theology at Emmanuel College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He served as an Anglican minister in the district of High River, Alberta from 1943 to 1959, then in Sidney, British Columbia from 1959 to 1970. In 1940 he married Margaret “Rita” Banister (?-1968) of Calgary, granddaughter of pioneer settler Albert Banister and niece of Mrs. William Roper Hull. They had one daughter who survived infancy, Margaret Emmeline (Mrs. Patrick Barclay, b. 1944?). Subsequent to Rita’s death, Fred remarried.
