      John Cuthbert "Bert" Valentine, 1897-1970, of Calgary, Alberta fought with Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) during the First World War. On his return he worked for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), then as a salesman for Ford Motors. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps, first as paymaster for the Calgary Highlanders. By 1945 he was supervisor for all Canadian pay services in northwest Europe. In 1946 he and Ted Halford established the Halford and Valentine car dealership. Bert was president until his retirement in 1968, when his son, Ted took over the business.
