      Samuel Anthony "Sammy" Tomlinson, 1901-1973, was born at Willenhall, England, and educated at Birmingham. At the outbreak of the First World War he apprenticed as a machinist and in 1917 joined the Royal Flying Corps. In 1918 he transferred to the Royal Air Force, and he was discharged in 1923. Emigrating to Canada, in 1926 he became chief mechanic with Western Canada Airways, one of the companies which eventually merged to form Canadian Pacific Airlines. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in England and in Canada. In 1973 he was elected to Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame.
