Laura Sarah Matilda Statham, 1846- 1932, was born in England. She married E.J. Gardiner in 1869 and they had two children, Claude and Barbara. She and daughter Barbara came to Olsen Creek in 1896 for an extended visit with her son, Claude. She returned to England, then in 1899 moved back to Alberta with Barbara. They lived in Fort Macleod until returning permanently to England at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
