Thomas Edwin Adelbert Stanley, 1869-1947, was born in Perth County, Ontario, and graduated from the University of Toronto in Mathematics, Physics and English in 1892. He taught school in Ontario, then moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1910, becoming principal of Central High School (1910-1920), South Calgary High School (1922-1928), and Western Canada High School (1929-1937). He was the second president of the Alberta Teachers' Association and was one of the founding delegates of the Canadian Teachers' Federation. He retired in 1938. He was also an amateur architect as a hobby, designing residences in Calgary at 1724 9A Street SW (1910), 1740 10th Street SW (1911), and 1731 9A Street SW (1926). He and his wife, Jennie Dell Barclay (1888-1983) had five children, Mary (Switzer), Irmadell, Ross M., Allen B., and Kelvin C. He died in 1947.
