Biographical history
The Springbank Irrigation District was established in 1894, under the provisions of the North West Irrigation Act, to divert water from the Elbow River and Jumpingpound Creek to irrigate up to 40,000 acres (16,000 ha.) of land near Springbank, Alberta. The land to be irrigated was in townships 23-25 and ranges 1-4 west of the 5th meridian. Only a portion of the irrigation works were completed, partially due to a succession of wet years.
