        History

Sport Alberta, a voluntary, non-government federation of provincial sport support agencies, grew out of the Alberta Council on Amateur Sports, which was founded in 1968. Sport Alberta was incorporated under the Societies Act in 1972, with the stated goals of providing support services and programs to members, and to develop the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Due to funding cuts Sport Alberta voted for its own dissolution in 1986. Its programs were transferred to the Alberta Sport Council and provincial government agencies.
