        Bertram Freeman Souch, 1878-1957, was born near Enfield, Ontario. He graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1900 and moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta the same year, where he established a drugstore. He subsequently completed his optician's course and practiced as an optometrist as well as a pharmacist. He opened several branches in Medicine Hat over the years. He also had a real estate business and for a time had a partnership with George Kennedy.

        In 1903 he married Helen Stephen Kennedy, ?-1944, and they had three children, Edith (McDonald), Bertram E. and John K. He served on the Medicine Hat School Board, 1914-1934, and became an alderman in 1917. He retired in 1946 and in 1947 married Mrs. Bernice Cyler.
