History
Georgina Patterson, 1887-1974, was born in New York, USA, and moved to Canada with her family at a young age. She married Alfred John Sackville, ?-1968, and they lived in various places in western Canada before settling on a farm near Innisfail, Alberta after the First World War. While her husband was overseas during the First World War, she and her mother, Nellie Patterson, started a home for the children of unwed and working mothers at 628-8th Avenue, Calgary. She continued to run the home into the 1920s, dividing her time between Innisfail and Calgary. In 1929 she wrote Birth Control or the Prevention of Conception and Unmarried Mothers and Illegitimate Children, both published by Calgary's McAra Printing Co. The Sackvilles retired to Calgary in 1946. They had four children, three sons and Madelaine (Gordon).
