Fonds F1327 - Robert Hogarth Milvain fonds

Robert Hogarth Milvain, ?-1933, from Postlip, Gloucestershire, England, spent much of his youth in Spain, and came to Calgary, Alberta in 1886. He operated a racing stable near Victoria Park and was a pioneer polo player. He also owned a ranch at Beaver Creek in the Porcupine Hills. He travelled overland to the Yukon during the Klondike gold rush and remained there and in Alaska for many years, prospecting and mining. He married his wife Margaret during a visit to England in 1910, and they had at least one son, E.H. "Teddy" Milvain. At the beginning of the First World War he returned to England and was commissioned in the Royal North Lancashire Regiment. After suffering serious wounds he retired to Snowshill, England.
