History
Leslie Riches, 1897-1982, was born at Cromer, England and came to Provost, Alberta with his family in 1913. Les and his brother operated the theatre in that centre for several years but in the late 1920s he moved to the Empress Theatre in Lethbridge. He later moved to Chauvin and Hughenden, followed by Rocky Mountain House. In the late 1930s the family moved to the Midway Theatre at Rosedale followed by the Napier Theatre in Drumheller from 1940 to 1952. The Crescent Theatre in Calgary was the next stop followed by the Hitching Post theatre in Calgary and finally the Towne Cinema in Calgary, 1963 to 1970. He and his wife had two daughters, Joyce, 1931- , and Myra, 1940- .
