Biographical history
Revillon Freres of Paris, France entered fur retailing in 1723 but in the 19th century branched into wholesaling and local fur trading. In 1899 they opened a warehouse in Edmonton, Alberta and in 1903 purchased the business of James Kennedy Cornwall and Fletcher Bredin. By that year Revillon Freres operated twenty-three establishments across Canada. The company fell on hard times after 1918 and between 1925 and 1936 they gradually sold their business to the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC).

The fonds consists of photographs of native peoples and post operations in northern Canada, including Edmonton, Athabasca Landing, Peace River, Fort Vermilion, Alberta, Ile a la Crosse, Buffalo Lake, Lac la Ronge, Pelican Narrows, Hatchet Lake, Saskatchewan, Little Churchill River, Manitoba, Mueltin Lake, NWT and in Quebec.
