Biographical history
Previous to 1981, the duties of the Faculty of Medicine Research Office were done by the Associate Dean (Medical Research). In 1981 the Office of Medical Research was formed. The name changed in 1988 to the Research Office. In 2014, the Faculty of Medicine was renamed the Cumming School of Medicine.
The Cumming School of Medicine is a national leader in health research with an international reputation for excellence and innovation. The school consistently ranks among the top three in federal funding per researcher and endowment funds have virtually matched pace with the rest of the school's growth. One of the school's greatest strengths is its organization of research into seven transdisciplinary institutes which together with its research centres contribute to the development and delivery of each of the three pillars of the Cumming School of Medicine – research, education and service to society.
