        James Thom Rae, 1884-1965, was born in Scotland and came to Calgary, Alberta in 1910. In 1917 he married Betty Beedie, 1886-1975, and they had one daughter, Jean. From 1910 to 1946 James worked for the Calgary City Police, rising to inspector before he retired. From 1920 to 1939 he served in the detective department. During the First World War he fought overseas with the First Canadian Pioneer Battalion.
