        History

        William Proven was born in Galashiels, Scotland the son of William and Annabella K. S. Proven. After immigrating to Canada he worked as a carpenter in the Calgary, Alberta region before enlisting with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on November 16th, 1914. He served overseas as a member of the 31st Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment). He died of his wounds received in battle on March 7, 1917.
