Biographical history

Pleamon Albert Copeman, ca. 1876-1951, was born in Essex, Ontario. He worked with the utilities department in St. Thomas, Ontario, then moved to Alberta in 1897. From 1904 to 1910 he was foreman of Water Services for the City of Calgary. In 1905 he married Emily Charlotte Nelson and they had seven children, Ella, Robert, Mildred (Duncanson), Donald, Violet (Matheson), Nina (Rollog) and Doris. The family returned to Ontario for two years, then settled in Westlock, Alberta. During the Second World War P.A. served overseas with the 194th Battalion. On his return he farmed and ran a sawmill near Westlock. The family moved to Edmonton in 1924 and P.A. worked for Northwestern Utilities.

The fonds consists of diaries kept while water services foreman (1904-1906); photographs of Calgary and Copeman (1908-1916); and miscellaneous correspondence, military lessons, postcards, and greeting cards (1905-1919).
