        Ellen A. Herbert, [ca. 1888-after 1979], was born in Coventry, England. In 1912 she joined her fiancee, Frederick John Player, 1890-1974, in Alberta. Fred had come the previous year, and worked as an electrician at the Black Diamond Creamery near Turner Valley, Alberta. They were married April 11, 1912 in Calgary. About 1920 Fred began to work in the oil industry. Over the years he worked for Calgary Petroleum Products (Dingman), Canadian Southern, McDougall-Segur, Royalite and McLeod Oils. In 1948 the Players moved to Devon, Alberta, where Fred worked for the Imperial Oil Gas Plant. They retired to Calgary in 1955. They had one daughter, Marjorie.
