        Helen Smaill, 1918-1989, was raised in Vanguard, Saskatchewan. In 1939 the family moved to Calgary, Alberta where prospects were better for Helen and her sister, Ruth, to make a living. Helen worked for the United Grain Growers. She was elected president of the junior hostesses of Scarboro Hostess Hall in 1943, and joined the Stagette Club of Calgary in 1944. In 1949 she married Walter Brown, and they had two children, Ross and Shelley (Desjardins). After her husband's death she married Robert Pilon in 1975.
