        History

        Beginning in the 1930s, prairie activist Nellie Peterson devoted her political life to convincing others that cooperation should triumph over capitalism, peace over war. An Albertan farmer, teacher, and leader in the provincial Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), she saw socialism as the means to achieve a cooperative society, though she also identifed women’s legal and social inequality as an inexcusable blight on Canadian society.
