Biographical history
The initial meeting of Parents Without Partners (Calgary) was held at the Young Men's Christian Association building in Calgary, Alberta in 1961. At that time, there were no other clubs or associations in the city for people who were bereaved or divorced with children. The club made formal application to become a Society under the Societies Act in 1969 and a new set of bylaws was adopted in 1983. The executive held monthly meetings to organize activities for club members such as speakers, bowling, childrens' parties and dances. The first dance was held at the Macabee Hall. After that, they were held at various locations until finally ending up at the Danish Canadian Club. The dances became very popular and well-attended until about 1986 when the club celebrated their 25th anniversary. After that, membership began to decline until finally the society was dissolved near the end of 1995.
