History
David Johnson came to Calgary, Alberta ca. 1901 from Toronto, Ontario, via Detroit, Michigan, USA. He worked as a baker, and in about 1908 became the proprietor of the Palmetto Bakery at 228 - 8th Avenue SE (later 224 - 8th Avenue SE). The Bakery had a cafe at the rear and also sold confectioneries. The Johnsons ran the Palmetto until approximately 1950. The family lived at 612 - 5th Avenue SW. David was married twice, first to Catherine, who died in Detroit, and later to Martha Helen. He had seven children.
