History
Thomas Oliver was a geologist, educated at the University of Manitoba and the University of California, Los Angeles. He became a sessional lecturer at the University of Alberta, Calgary campus in 1957, becoming a regular academic staff member of the Department of Geology in 1959. He rose through the ranks to become Professor, was Head and Acting Head of Department on several occassions, Assistant to the Vice- President (Academic), Associate Provost, Dean of Science, and Dean of University College. He retired in 1987 and returned to teach as a sessional the following year. Dr Oliver died in 1997.
