Biographical history
The Ogden Hostel for single men was established in Calgary, Alberta in 1935, when the Provincial Government purchased the Ogden Hotel. It was managed by the Department of Public Works, and over the years housed single, transient, employable men, as well as homeless elderly men. The capacity of the Hostel in 1959 was 242 men. It closed in the late 1960s and in 1970 re-opened as Alyth Lodge, which provided low-cost housing.
