      William Robert "Bob" Newbolt, 1866-1957, was born in Woolwich, England and moved to southern Alberta in the 1880s as a rancher. He established the Bowchase Ranch near Indus, Alberta. He was a scout with the Alberta Field Force in the 1885 Riel Rebellion (North West Rebellion) and was an active polo player. In 1891 he helped found the Ranchmen's Club in Calgary. He married Mabel Gordon Fraser in 1899 and they had no children.
