Biographical history
Nelly Hutchinson and her husband, William Gibson Hutchinson, ?-1902, were born in Scotland and came to Canada in 1884. They first lived in eastern Canada then moved to Alberta in 1886. They settled in Calgary, then in 1895 bought the Buffalo Lake Trading Company in Lamerton, in partnership with Joe Edminson. William also served as postmaster. The Hutchinsons had three children, Effie, Joe and Eunice, two of whom were born in Alberta. After the death of William in 1902, Nelly married Frank Taylor and they lived on Buffalo Lake. After being hailed out they moved into Calgary for a number of years, then took up land in the foothills to the west of the city.
