Fonds F1300 - Neil McQueen fonds

Neil McQueen, 1899-1976, was born in Petrolia, Ontario, the son of Alexander McQueen, a senior officer of Imperial Oil. He accompanied his father on exploration parties to western Canada beginning in 1916 and in 1919 began a course in petroleum engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He accompanied Ted Link on Imperial's explorations at Fort Norman, NWT. After leaving university he worked for Imperial Oil in western Canada, based in Calgary, Alberta. In 1927 he moved to Vancouver where he was involved in several mining ventures including Bralorne Mines.

He returned to Calgary in 1939 to manage a contracting firm, Oil Ventures Ltd. After the 1947 Leduc discovery he established Central Leduc Oils Ltd. which in 1957 merged with Del Rio Producers Ltd. as Central-Del Rio. In 1969 the firm merged with Canadian Pacific Investments and the new company was named PanCanadian Petroleum. Neil was married twice; he and his second wife, Mary-Jane, 1930-2001, had two sons, Neil McQueen Jr. and Murray McQueen. Neil's brother, Hugh Murray McQueen, 1894-1918, died in action in France during the First World War.
